Save The Girl…Save The Nation on International Day Of Girl Child
The International Day Of Girl Child is observed on 11th October, a day designated by the United Nations for promoting rights of girls, and addressing the unique challenges they face around the world. The inaugural day in 2012 focused on the issue of “Child Marriage”. This year’s theme is “The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030.”
Globally, girls face discrimination and violence everyday, often for no reason than being born as a girl. The International Day of the Girl Child focuses on the the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girl empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. This day is observed to create global efforts to create equal opportunities for girls and women.
This day is recognized to spread awareness of the gender equality and women empowerment worldwide. It is important for people to know about the importance of girl child. A girl plays important role in the society and one should value their life. It is important for people to understand that girls need better quality of life along with proper education and care.
Girl child abuse, child marriage, killing of girl fetus should be prevented. To spread this message the celebration takes place across the globe.
The scenario today has evolved as it used to be years ago. More girls are now entering schools than ever before. The gender gap in school enrollments and various other fields has evolved. However, many girls – particularly the most marginalized continue to be deprived of the most basic rights.
One of the most devastating statistics is that according to the UN, one in three women and girls will experience abuse in their lifetime. A statistic we wish did not exist.
A lot has been achieved but there is still more to accomplish.
“ Girls are the spirit of our nation, save them and stop their exploitation”.
