International Music Day
34th International Music Day
“Where words leave off, Music begins.”
World music day is celebrated on 21st June. The day also known as Fete de la Musique, was a music festival, which began in France in 1982. French minister of Culture Jack Lang conceived the idea in 1981. Since then the day has been celebrated every year as “The World Music Day”. According to another theory, American musician Joel Cohen in France, in 1976, proposed an all-night music celebration to mark the beginning of the summer solstice and since then the entire world celebrates World Music Day on June 21.
Now it has become a worldwide phenomenon with over 32 countries across the world celebrate the day in their own way.
On this day all the musicians perform for free in parks, stations, restaurants, museums etc. This day is celebrated to spread peace and harmony through music.
Music helps in communicating with people and making a special bond with them. Music is an art. It fuels the mind. It increases the imaginative power and makes a man creative enough to do any work. It soothes the mind, brings positivity and keeps the person focused. It even lowers the feeling of tension in a person.
When you listen to music, a part of your brain called the nucleus accumbens activates. This triggers the release of the ‘pleasure chemical’ dopamine that lives in a group of neurons in your brain called the Ventral Tegmental Area (VTA).
Music is the language of the Universe.
There are different forms of music. Instrumental or classical music has been shown to increase the performance and focus of a person. For best focus music with less or no lyrics is the best.
It has spiritual power. Music is rooted within self of every person. It brings people together. It was noted that workers who listen to music were more happy and efficient and made fewer errors.
It resonates within the human spirit. At the heart of humanity is a song of the soul. It boosts the mind of a person. One feels refreshed after listening to music. It acts like a boost to a person’s body.
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato
“Music washes away from the soul, the dust of everyday life.” – Berthold Auerbach
